Bio

Ben Lu is a multidisciplinary legal professional with a strong background in accounting, finance, and law. As one of the earliest practitioners in China to specialize in tax law, he played a key role in the founding and development of TaxLawyerChina.com, one of China’s earliest professional websites dedicated to tax law services. He has been recognized multiple times as an “Outstanding Lawyer” and “Elite in Tax and Finance.”

With a solid foundation in civil and commercial law, Ben brings a comprehensive perspective to complex tax matters. His practice covers a wide range of areas, including tax planning, project advisory, representation in tax and customs administrative disputes, criminal defense in tax and customs-related cases, and litigation in civil and commercial matters. He is also known for his pioneering work in emerging areas that remain underexplored in the domestic legal community, such as trust and wealth management, cross-border tax transactions, and the structuring of short-term financing instruments.

Ben has led numerous high-profile engagements, including:

  • the asset acquisition by a major state-owned enterprise,

  • the purchase of the COSCO Football Club by Yongda Group,

  • tax planning for multinational manufacturing companies,

  • hotel asset management and financing projects,

  • real estate project financing transactions,

  • issuance of financing instruments by a securities firm,

  • customs audits involving multinational import-export groups,

  • administrative review proceedings involving alleged tax evasion by accounting firms, and

  • enterprise income tax planning.

Ben is widely respected for his diligence, precision, and humility—qualities that have earned the trust of clients and the admiration of colleagues alike.

Beyond his legal practice, Ben actively contributes to the development of tax law theory and practice in China. He regularly publishes articles reflecting on his case experience, practical insights, and selected precedents, which have been featured in both domestic and international journals and industry publications.
